Looking for photographers

You’re in luck!

Quaff is in need of photographers who have the knack for odd angles, the love for print, the liberty of time and the willingness to snap for free (well… almost).

We’ll cover your cab fare, and offer you booze at our parties, list your name as a contributor to Quaff, and recommend you to the people we know.  Plus, I promise, we’re great people to work with!

Your job scope will be mostly ad-hoc, and will largely involve photography of events, cocktails and venue interiors.

If you are interested, please send your portfolio, some sample shots, or website address to karen@quaffmagazine.com.  Alternatively, you can also put down your website address in the comments.

Vintage Beer Cans

Meant to post this up for some time now.

So captivating.

There’s more at TheDieline.

Bar Hunting

Recently, in July we believe, Singha (that’s the beer, not the lion) teamed up with Lonely Planet and ran a contest that invited people from around the world to vote for the best bar.  Like ever.

The winning bar turned out to be a little nondescript player called De Witte Aap in Rotterdam.

witte-aap_rotterdam

De Witte Aap is neither excitedly avant-garde nor achingly cool; given that, it seems to be one of those cosy (speak to any Dutch person and I’m sure they’ll use cosy to describe almost anything) bars where you just have to be there to experience how great it is.  They organise a different visual arts exhibition every month, and the bar acts as a gallery space for creative artists.  If you’ve been there before, we’d like to know how your night at De Witte Aap went!

Back to the list of selected bars from the contest, our personal top pick is a quirky cafe not far from our shores. Palate Palatte in KL boasts of a symphony of mismatched furniture, it’s beautiful.  When seemingly opposing pieces come together in harmony, we simply go weak in the knees.

Pretty eh?

Absolut Stud

The revival of 80s fashion spares no one.

Shoulder pads, leather and studs are rocking up the runways, and of course our favourite ever-trendy-and-controversial vodka would not say no to joining in the fun.

Pictures from here.

Stunning, yes?  My favourite Absolut bottle thus far.  It’s just so effortlessly… cool.

Designed by Natalia Brilli.  Simply brill (sorry, couldn’t resist).

Perfect Night Out Gear

I die. To me, this is the perfect outfit for a night out - the perfect comfy slouchy tee, killer heels, roomy tote (I like my bags spacious).  Or it could just be my mini obsession with sequins speaking.

Champagne Couture

To launch their own brand of champagne, Louboutin has designed a limited edition box set titled Le Rituel, it’s sexy and distinctive, but oh so naughty at the same time.

Can you drink out of this shoe??  I would.  Gladly.  All day long.

This was spotted here.

Homemade Homebrew

Our stomachs are rumbling at the Quaff headquarters and we are desperate for some beer-y goodness!

As per this post’s title, we are going to embark on a little fermenting adventure.

Oh don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated, and we’ll share.

1800-Liquor-Home-Delivery

Really?  You’re not on board the online shopping train?  Let us show you the way.

Here are our favourite picks for booze home delivery.

1.   MabukMonkey

Perfect for a casual get-together with friends, MabukMonkey offers a range of your usual spirits, house wines, and mixers.  They also guarantee home delivery within the hour from your order (provided you call during operation hours from 6 pm till 12 midnight, Tuesdays to Sundays) and promise that the beer will thus arrive ice-cold.  How’s that for quick and easy.  We love that their delivery menu also includes munchies.

2.   Burn Down The House

Burn Down The House is the party-delivery-arm of Pacific Beverages and is absolutely the place to go to for beer lovers.  Expect to get here your European favourites such as Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, Leffe etc.  You’ll have to order by the case though.  Check out their ‘Extras’ section where they have tied up with catering, dj/entertainment, restaurant, and spirits partners to bring you a party that will, say it with me, burn down the house.

3.   Denise The Wine Shop

Delivery from Denise takes 2 to 5 working days, so be sure to order in advance.  A full range of wines (sparkling or otherwise) and champagnes from all over the world (New and Old) can be found here which is great if you’re holding a corporate event and really need to impress those clients.  A delivery charge of $20 is waived for orders over $300.

Bear in mind that these deliveries are only available in Singapore.

It’s Drunk-Friendly

jerry-lamp

You know sometimes you’re thinking of holding a little cocktail soiree at your place, perhaps for your housewarming or to celebrate a job promotion, and you want to invite, let’s call him Melvin.  Melvin is a great guy, plenty of fun, he’s the life of the party, knows everyone, and with Melvin around, you know the night will be pumping.  Problem is, Melvin gets a little drunk at times.  He becomes a little too rough, a little too friendly, a little too clumsy.

He knocks things over.  You’re worried about your furniture, your cutlery, your designer lamp.  We know your pain.  We have friends too who just can’t keep their enthusiasm in check after a few whiskeys.

The Jerry Lamp.  Made from recycled non-toxic silicone, rubbery and virtually indestructible, it’s perfect to have in your house for friends like Melvin.

Last we checked, this was available on www.dwr.com for US$145.
